Ive been preparing for Air Force basic training for about two months now with the goal of running 4-5 miles a day everyday which in two months has shaved a lot of my time and has made me better pysically. I use to play sports in high school so workingout is a part of me you can say. My question is this: Running 4miles a day for the past 2 months and a half until the day i leave for basic. Will i be in a pysical shape required by the Air Force of me and is this good preperation for BMT?

      Hi Moses
Thanks for writing, not sure why you are running so much. I would just follow the workout plan in the Ultimate Air Force Guidebook. You are doing too much running and you’re going to injure yourself before basic even starts.

Hi, new air force basic training mom. My son just called. Not the conversation I thought we would be having. He’s 18 and having a bit of a hard time. What is the best coversation to have? Trying not coddle or be too hard. Any insight would be great.

    Thanks
    Annie

    Hi Annie
Thanks for writing. Great question and one I get from time to time. Next time you talk to him tell him to take days one at a time, or even use smaller units of measurement if possible (i.e one afternoon at a time). If he started thinking in terms of weeks or months, he will only make himself more stressed.

Hello Sergeant. My question is that I am part of Civil Air Patrol and Want to know what things differ between all the branches and their BMT. Also, I want to know how I can be more prepared for boot camp. Being In CAP, I have already learned how to drill and know most of the stuff. How can I be more ready. I am wanting to join the Air Force. I am also overweight by like 50 -100 lbs will they still take me if I can pass the fitness test?

Geez man, you came to a basic training preparation website and asked how you can prepare for basic training :) .
The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook is a great start, that is the core of all the books in my series. Once you read that, you can quiz your knowledge with the Workbook.
If you follow the tips in the Guidebook you will be more prepared than 99% of the other recruits.

  6. I’ve seen lots of information about immunizations, dental, and vision tests at Air Force Basic Training, but not much on hearing test. Do you have to take the hearing test again at AFBMT or is the one at MEPS sufficient?

There is no hearing test at BMT. The next time anyone gets a hearing test is right before they deploy, and then again right after they get back to the states. This is done to check for hearing loss due to combat. Thanks.

Hello, my son left for BMT 10 days ago. I have been writing him every day. I sent a letter in a card, and now I am being told that he will be given a hard time about getting cards. Is this true? Please tell me the truth so I know if I shouldn’t send him any more. I don’t want him being made fun of for something I did. The cards were inspirational. Thanks, Michelle

  9. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. He won’t get picked on unless you sent pictures. Usually they get passed around. He might not even get it as they are only suppose to get paper. Too many people try to send cards with snacks inside like gum. So because of that, they usually don’t get issued to the recruit.

  10. Greetings. I believe there’s something wrong with your site loading speed. I hope you’ll be able to fix it!

    hello SGT. Volkin,
My question is about MEPS for the Air Force, the weekend I attend MEPS for the ASVAB, and physical examination, am I supposed to do the physical requirements of push ups (45 a minute), and sit ups (50 a minute)?
